In the past decade, game companies have been releasing devs after a game is finished. I have a few friends in the gaming industry, and it’s brutal as a software engineer.

Yeah. There’s some quirks.

So if you’re used to modding by moving files around and editing a text file, you’re right at home. Same process. Maybe some Linux quirks like running the game with some command lines flags.

If you’re used to modding by clicking a few buttons on a mod manager, nah. We aren’t there yet.

A hypothetical fear of course, one with my wife who I’ve been with for 15 years now.

One day, maybe hopefully 30-50 years in the future, my wife and I look back and think about how good our lives were. We raised happy and successful kids. We bought a house. We had dozens of pets. We celebrate the end of our life together. But she doesn’t make it.

And I have to spend the final years alone with memories of her. Two controllers. Two spoons. Two of everything for decades. Now just me.

And Never being able to explain to the rest of the world how amazing she was.

I wish I could say that. I played Daggerfall and I spent 4 hours in the tutorial dungeon. And in the game, if I wasnt dying, then the game was crashing.

I played 100 hours of Starfield. I dont remember much of it to be honest, nor am I interested in going back.

And yet I picked up Elden Ring back up like half a dozen times since release.

Like you telling me out of 250 developers on Starfield, nobody is losing their shit that this project isnt at all critically acclaimed like many of their other releases?
