I got lucky that an american friend who brought a Thinkpad from the states gifted that to me. But in general it’s not a bad option to buy used thinkpads and just replacing the keyboard. Still a bit more expensive than if that was a common option, though, of course.

ANSI QWERTY TKL. Despite living in Germany, where we usually use ISO. I got used to it when I spent a year in the states and realized how useful it is for writing code. Now I have the differences to the German layout memorized pretty well so I just switch in software whenever I need German characters like ä or ß.

We have a chain with a handful of restaurants called Burgermeister here in Berlin. Those are pretty good, and relatively cheap, but another small chain called bobsek burgers made the best burgers I’ve had in Germany. It’s pretty hard to find burgers like in america though.

Basically sound is a change in air pressure, and we record that pressure value thousands of times a second. That’s basically a bunch of numbers, and how rocks/electricity represents that is ones and zeroes (binary).

Usually that data then gets compressed by using lots of smart maths. When you play that sound file, all that work is done backwards and your speakers produce the necessary pressure changes to make the sound.

Monkeys could randomly produce a perfect human sentence if they typed random stuff into a text file and it got converted appropriately. It’s just insanely unlikely.

I was playing around with electronics from the trash with my brother. We found a lamp with what we figured was a broken fuse. To test this theory, we wanted to take the fuse out of the system. So what do we do? I hold the cables together using two pliers. Our theory was right. But I ended up slightly shifting the wires so they weren’t in contact anymore. Suddenly 240v were traveling through my arms and my muscles tensed, causing me to grab the pliers really tightly, unable to let them go. My brother saved my life by being smart and cool headed enough to just unplug the lamp after 2-3 seconds. I dont think I ever came closer to dying than that time.
