For all your owl related needs!
I went to look her up, and I found another article about her surrounding the entrance to one voting building with boulders to prevent against vehicle attacks.
What the heck is going on in Luzerne?!
I’ve been on a kick lately from my music studies. I got assigned some bossa nova to learn, so I listened to a bunch, and then since I love reading and researching, I started looking into the origins and evolution of things.
I also listen to some podcasts about social issues, and that gets me interested in all sorts of things, so I dive into history of slavery and systematic racism to learn what I wasn’t taught in school.
In my current job and the last, I’m also pretty much the only white employee, so I try to inform myself on things so I don’t say any stupid redneck stuff.
Mainly, I just want to be less ignorant whenever possible…
Very inspiring article, thank you for sharing!
Llusco and her fellow Aymara guides are changing the face of tourism, traditionally a male-dominated industry. She has done two entry-level mountaineering courses and wants to travel abroad to do more advanced studies.
“At first it was hard, the men looked at me strangely, like I didn’t belong,” she says. “Still now, there are often times when I’m the only woman, or one of very few, working on the mountain.”
Bolivia’s Indigenous population has seen greater recognition since Evo Morales served as the country’s first Indigenous president between 2006 and 2019, but it is not an easy place to be a woman; in 2021, the country had one of the highest rates of femicide in South America. “It has been very difficult for me, and the whole group, to face the sexism and discrimination we’ve had to go through,” says Llusco. “We have stumbled because we are women who wear polleras.
“But we also have support that encourages us to keep going. Together, we are stronger. We support each other and teach our children to follow in our footsteps.”
The cholitas escaladoras are part of a wider movement, which has been fighting for their rights since at least the 1960s, that also includes the cholitas luchadoras (the wrestling cholitas) and the cholitas skaters.
The cholitas escaladoras, which have now splintered into three groups, have received worldwide attention for their achievements.
This is why you can’t go by a headline or the article summary…sometimes you actually need to read the article. It isn’t about the clothes whatsoever.
She’s discriminated against for being a woman, a native person, someone who speaks the “wrong” language, wears the “wrong” clothes, and gets hated on just for being herself or for enjoying the things she does, in the way she wants to do them.
She’s concerned for the great environmental collapse of her homeland. She wants her peoples’ traditions to carry on to the future. She wants people like her to be proud and enjoy life in their way.
Her and her friends are doing things most people can’t do with all their fancy high tech gear, and they’re doing it in their daily wear, but they still get hated on for it.
That’s why they have articles and movies about them and the rest of us don’t. If you can’t find something inspiring that you’d be proud of a person for in this article, I don’t think the issue is the author or the subject matter. It’s a really good article in my opinion.
Lol she might possibly be an upgrade!
Good heavens, I’d hate to see which co-worker I’d get paired with! That’s some type of Russian Roulette! 🤣🤢
We had a new group in from another regional site come for training.
It turned out the one was actively also a prostitute. She was freely distributing her social media, showing people videos of herself, and asking us where the secluded parts of the campus were so she could do her thing with some of the scientists.
She didn’t do very much actual work, or at least not what she was supposed to be doing there. I give her credit for seeming to be very proud of her side gig. She seemed to really enjoy it. I think she just eventually stopped coming in after they went back to their own site, so maybe she did find herself a scientist.
Definitely the wildest person I’ve ever worked with.
I started donating to the local animal rescue. None of them get any public funding whatsoever, so all the money is going to the animals’ care.
They’re pretty open with what it costs to take care of the various animals, and I feel it’s a critical job they do.
Haven’t gotten any spam so far either, so that is respectful.
I do recall seeing that.
This is why you can’t argue facts with some people. 🙄
That’s much of what I didn’t enjoy about the last season. It didn’t really feel like satire so much anymore.
Sometimes I feel like I’m living in the latest season of The Boys.
I’d be fine with a meth using lady with some form of legit self run business. This Nazi stuff is a bridge too far though.
I don’t recall where they all were, but I do remember there being a string of these power station shootings for a while. It’s somewhat nice to know the reasoning behind it all now, though also more disturbing seeing how widespread it is and not just a couple of local yahoos. Both these women deserve to put away.
My unsureness was only about the level of responsibility for Durov, though it seems some of his charges are for his complicities in allowing things like this to continue and failing to cooperate with requests to do something from authorities. It does sound like he is now cooperating to turn over any evidence he may have about crimes arranged over Telegram, so why I don’t feel this should give him a free pass, it’s good he may allow other crimes to be prevented or prosecuted.
I don’t follow much of this news lately, as I’ve just been overwhelmed by it becoming such a regular thing, so I’ve had to catch up on all these details.
Humber has one heck of a backstory. Meth addict dildo seller turned Nazi audiobook narrator.
I don’t know how to feel about the arrest of the person running the platform. I typically lean toward siding on it’s the responsibility of the posters for what they post, but at the same time, if you are knowledgeable people are using something of yours for a crime, and not just anything, but terrorism or supporting murder, it seems like he should definitely have some share of the responsibility for not even taking any form of action.
Agents recovered various firearms from her bedroom and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. Clendaniel is prohibited from possessing a firearm because she is a convicted felon.
Evidence used in the trial included transcripts of recorded phone conversations between Clendaniel and a confidential informant, revealing that she wanted to obtain a high-powered rifle to shoot through substations in Reisterstown, Perry Hall, White Marsh, and more locations.
I tried to find data about how seriously straw purchases are being treated these days, as enforcement always seemed very lax. This is how this person seems to have obtained her weaponry. A straw purchase in the case of firearms is when someone buys a firearm with the intent of it ending up in the hands of someone else. It is common to have a partner or acquaintance purchase a gun to get around the background check.
I searched for “straw purchase jail” to try to find conviction rates, and oddly all the results looked to be only from Pennsylvania, and are pretty recent. There does seem to be some enhanced penalties put into place nationally, after a number of mass shootings traced back to straw purchases.
Prosecutors say Clendaniel has been in communication with her co-defendant, Russell, through Dallas Humber, an alleged transnational terrorist group leader from California. Humber is accused of soliciting hate crimes, the murder of Federal officials, and conspiring to provide materials to terrorists. The communication between Clendaniel, Humber and Russell persisted until July 2024.
Prosecutors allege this communication shows that Clendaniel is still conspiring during recorded phone calls while incarcerated.
Before receiving the sentence, Clendaniel addressed the courtroom saying she is more likely to hurt herself than others. She says she still retains her national socialist beliefs, which she has had since she was 13 years old, but that she would not act on them.
Judge Bredar explained that she is not being sentenced for her beliefs, rather she is being put behind bars because she was prepared to act on them and cause significant harm. He said he is not convinced she wouldn’t act on them in the future.
And she has learned nothing. Hopefully she will continue to incriminate herself on a regular basis to ensure she serves the full 18 years of her sentence.
She needs premium, dude!
Preeeemium!!!
Duuuuuuuuude!!!
I’m glad to see this. I’m not the best historian, but Haiti seems to have one of the roughest histories. Everyone who’s ever had anything to do with it from its colonization to present day has left it a worse place than they’ve found it. Even the modern aid that gets sent there is done thoughtlessly and seems to hurt them more than help them.
I think they’re an amazing and persistently strong people, but I do not fault any of them the slightest bit for wanting to get out.
Anything that positively helps the Haitian people is such a joy to hear about.
Oral B Smart 5000
Got it free in exchange for a survey. It’s got Bluetooth and an app and I thought it was ridiculous and I never would have paid for it.
I was still with my ex, so it’s been going on strong for at least 8 years now, and I use generic brush heads just fine. I think oral B had the highest speed if that’s your thing.
I like the Bluetooth timer module because it has a fun face on it that tells me if I’m doing good that reminds me of a tamagotchi.
The battery won’t hold the charge for days like it did, so I keep it on the base now, and it still holds enough juice to get through us brushing with it. Whenever it dies, I plan to replace it with whatever the current model is.
I only started using Reddit regularly when I learned of the third party apps, so when they killed that, this is the thing all the other quitters were talking about.
Tried out a few apps and instances. It seemed very slow and quiet, but much nicer as far as the personalities. Was just a lurker at Reddit, so I had nothing to leave behind, so I stayed here.
It’s not quite as nice now as during the mass migration, but I’ve found a nice niche for myself here and I participate much more often than I ever would have at Reddit. There’s a decent audience now, but still enough room to find your own voice and to build the type of community you want.
Yes, I meant as in all previous cases.
I know judges know all the lawyers and prosecutors due to working together, but the quote makes them sound much more bro-ish and that they spent much time together out of work.
If he was a public defender, I get that’s one thing, but a judge and prosecutor that chummy has to make it harder than normal to be the defendant.
This is what most often gets me.
I’m here to have fun, so I try to limit my political opinions.
If it seems like someone may be missing some important info to make an informed decision and I feel I can phrase it in an educational way and not preachy or confrontational, then I’ll hit publish.
