i was talking with my brother about removing your phone number form social media accounts but on some websites when you remove the phone number it stays in the history logs on your account (instagram)
is this legal for a website to keep your number in the logs when you deleted it from the account?
You might want to change that clickbaity title
No GDPR, No rights
People in privacy circles do talk about phone numbers, but it’s usually about them being collected in the first place. Most of us realize that corporate promises to delete them later are easily reneged and impossible to verify, and therefore next to worthless. We need laws forbidding data collection. We don’t have them yet.
By the way, that title is useless to people who are browsing Lemmy to see which posts might interest them.
That depends on where you live. Most places in the US, yes it is legal. It’s legal to keep almost any data for any reason in most of the US
Americans are products and consumers, nothing else.
What does the law say where your brother lives?
