The footage shows the young women, all of them stunned and some bloodied, being bound and bundled into a jeep.

One of the gunmen can be heard shouting back in Arabic: “You are dogs! We will step on you, dogs!”

Another gunman tells a captive: “You’re beautiful.”

Never thought knowing Palestinian Arabic could become so useful. Sabaya is a very normal word to use for youngish women. Maybe in high Arabic it is a more specific term but in every day language no one in their right mind would think about anything related to pregnancy, that’s just ridiculous. Maybe it’s implied, just like it’s implied in “girl” or “young woman”, but that’s just a very desperate attempt to make it sound more than it actually is.

      More background:

In Fusha (high Arabic) there are allegedly like 50 different names for a camel depending on what it’s up to. E.g. it has a different name when it’s drinking, sitting, pregnant, young, old, … very similar to cattle terminology in English: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cattle_terminology

Why I’m mentioning this isn’t because I want to equate women to cattle (please don’t read this out of my comment, that’s not at all what I’m saying just to be very clear). I’m saying it because Arabic is a very rich and complex language. I really don’t know much about Fusha but it can very well be that sabaya means something more specific there in terms of what kind of women these sabaya are exactly. Anyway, even if that were the case in every day language no one would actually try to specifically mention that some woman is capable of getting pregnant.

I suspect that they knew it they would have to correct it, but did it anyway because the lie would be spread more than the correction.

Thanks, but it seems a lot more complicated than just saying they’re “confirmed fake”. It sounds like there’s a legitimate debate over the best way to translate a word that doesn’t have a direct equivalent in English.

Whenever one of those israeli war crime videos get posted all the Zionists are up in arms about how the translations need to be quadruple checked for accuracy.

But when a video of Hamas gets posted where israel provably falsified the subtitles to push their rape fanfic, somehow it’s “worthy of debate”.

There no debate here. The subtitles from israel are completely wrong and in no way match what was said.

Reuters confirms not all subtitles are incorrect.

      Such as “You’re beautiful”

It’s really weird how they emphasise this “rape and abuse of women” line when things are looking bad for them. It’s like they see this as the thing that generates the most outrage, and all they have left say in their defense is “Hamas is evil.” So they try to make everyone focus on the emotional response to the horrors on October 7th so it “feels” like this is a fair justification.

They have had this footage for over 7 months. And it just so happens that they sat on it until now, and released it shortly after the ICJ ruling. Hmmmmmmm

They seem to think they can distract everybody with this like they’re jingling keys for a baby

Weird. This post has been here for 9 hours and no one has claimed this is fake or Israeli lies? Best to ignore this part of the narrative completely right?

    Hamas are rapists and murderers.

They started this war to cause maximum casualties…to their own people.

That’s why they fight in the most populated areas, the schools, hospitals. That’s why they prolong the war.

Imagine being stuck between Hamas, who uses your suffering to increase support for their cause, and Israel who is more than happy to kill you anyway. And rather than sympathise with these poor people you take to the internet to defend the murderers in the IDF just because the other side is also bad.

Imagine if you were close enough to your humanity to feel for the people suffering instead of just running transparent PR for the ones killing thousands and thousands of children

Not many people will look at a video of people kidnapping women to rape and think…I need to comment to defend people like that…good on you for lowering the bar that much

I think if you can’t see the implications of this in the current context you are lost. This focus on the horrendous crimes that took place on October 7th is being used to justify a genocide. Of course it was horrendous. But ever since then we have seen a continuous stream of horrendous crimes, and narrowly focusing on the 1,200 victims of October 7th is a game to distract attention from the 35,000 + mainly innocent people who have been brutally killed in the almost 8 months since then and still being killed now.

This story on it’s own is about despicable crimes and there would be nothing to object to. The wider context and specific timing make it more sinister
