As I always move fast I have a problem with feeling like I loosely strapped a brick onto myself when I put my phone in my pockets, including waist and knee ones. It chaotically moves at each step and I’m tired of that. To the point I take it in my hand when I’m in a real hurry.
I guess, Lemmy has a lot of people who either run or do outdoors activities and labor.
What are the best positions on the body to make it move less when you walk or run? Are there some great smartphone holders, straps that you can recommend? Can I use it with casual clothes without it looking weird?
I suppose the ones you place on the belt are obvious to suggest first, but I haven’t seen them since the death of small button phones and current smartphones are kinda big for that to work. And no, putting it into a bag, a suitcase or a backpack wouldn’t work for me for I prefer not to be dependent on carrying them on me.
Most of my pants are tight enough that the phone barely moves. For running I have a Flip Belt that securely holds it against my body without any risk of it falling out. https://flipbelt.com/
Flipbelt
No seriously guys, it’s not a fannypack, honest. It’s a Flipbelt ©®™ It’s like a fannypack but costs about 5 times more
I’m not sure if my favorite part is the scout-carry waterbottle or the DickLightTM
I mean, I bought one 5 years ago for $30 and it still works fine. I have fanny packs as well but it serves a differe t purpose. $6 / year is well worth it to me.
Is it endorsed by Indiana Jones?

Don’t see how front jeans pocket is too loose. Still not sure what your use case is, but you can try an arm band if you need constant access to it. If you don’t like how it’s slippery in your pocket, you can get a case with rubbery outside edge that will make it not slide. But that’s could make it annoying to slide into you pocket.
My phone when placed in front pockets hits my belly or my leg when I’m on the go or sitting and makes moving that side uncomfy because it’s placed right in the place that warps a lot. I’m probably looking for an accesory that can hold it on my long straight bones.
Honestly just sounds like you need bigger/better pockets.
What about some joggers or pants with one of those hidden side zip pockets, making sure they are a slim fit?
Sadly, I can’t dictate my choice of clothes in different settings, so I probably need a universal holder.
Amusing. This conundrum, exactly as described, has also been bothering me, on and off, for years. Having tried a bunch of solutions, I have recently settled on one that I’m quite pleased with.
A bumbag. AKA waist pack. (AKA another name which sounds both comical and vulgar to British ears.)
You’re not gonna look cool but it works.
Get one of those arm band cases so you can wear your phone like that thing Leela has on her wrist in Futurama.
Or spend way more for a smartwatch to essentially have the same thing but smaller.
Look up running belts.
Don’t look up my running belt!
One of my friends wears a lightweight (mostly mesh) cargo vest thing that looks good on him. But he’s one of those assholes who looks good in anything. I would look like a doofus wearing it. Anyway, it has multiple pockets on the front.
I’d see in the mirror if I have an a-word pass for that.
Let us know if you ever find a good solution. Stuff in my pants pockets annoys me, too.
Okay, so I tried a couple of accessoriea and for me the holder on the belt did it.
An illustration of a somehow different product:
My holder has a little loop for a carabine (to put it onto a neck strip?) as well as vertical and horizontal loops that can secure it onto your belt either way. Unlike legs and hands, my ass doesn’t move that much, so if a phone fits the holder, you won’t feel it moving by itself.
Of vertical and horizontal placements I’ve chosen horizontal on my side. I pick my phone with my hand going from my side to my crotch. It proved to be more natural than lifting it up, and unlike vertical placed phone it doesn’t hit your legs and stomack and also wobble even less.
Downsides are that it can look like you are taking up a gun if you are in the US and also you’d need to wear a t-shirt tucked under your belt for it not to get into your way. A jacket can go over such holder with no problem, but everything tight should go behind it.
Glad you found something that works! And thank you for the follow-up!
Hope you’d find it too c:
I would.
The Unipörs is kind of an odd one but at least it’s invisible under a jacket
What a stupid name…
I have sprinted without this being an issue so color me very confused.
Do you wear very loose fitting clothes by any chance?
Maybe, since my complection is a bit unstandard for my place. Thus I wish to probably outsource that one thing to a fitting accessory because I don’t feel like I can afford a tailor’s work.
Ive heard the prison wallet is pretty secure but accessibility might not be the greatest.
That’s really only suitable for the EB-G520.
My opinion is you need to use a smaller phone. Then a regular looking running waist pouch, arm band, or even a good pocket will work. Look into the small(er) s24, iphone se, iphone normal, pixel, BLU or Tank brand phones.
Arm band! I have a generic one I got on Amazon and it’s been very handy. It does slowly slide down my arm over 45 minutes or so, but I don’t really know how anything else would do better without being even tighter or having a more grippy material that I don’t really want again my skin.
Only thing lighter weight is an active 4G watch.
My doomscrolling device is some 4.5 inches (?), that’s smaller than average. I would have liked a Steve Jobes’ standard small screen like from the first iPhones, but I can’t buy a small smartphone anymore thanks to their producers, and the smallest I can get without sacrificing hardware and app compatibility doesn’t fit my big hands anymore. Like, I can’t use that cheap small model without placing my little finger under it’s bottom side to support it.
Back pocket for me. Even at my most active I’ve never had it fall out. Just have to remember to take it out when you sit down.
I bike and I have a pouch that wraps around the strap of my messenger bag. The trick is I put it on the inside of the strap, between the strap and my chest. Accessible and immobile.
If you’re wearing a jacket a chest holster could work, either one with a chest strap like
or if you wear your jacket open one without.I usually get an Otterbox case for my phones which come with a belt clip.
