Jesus…
A white flight attendant claimed all 8 black men on the flight “smelled offensive” and got them removed…
They weren’t sitting together, didn’t know each other, and it was every Black man on the flight and no white men…
But after removing them from the flight, the plan was to just put them on another plane?
And when they couldn’t find one, they got back on the same plane that had been sitting there for an hour?
It’s not just the racist flight attendant that’s the problem here, it’s the people in charge that went along with his bullshit.
Too bad this will end with a settlement and NDAs instead of accountability for the racists and justice for the victims.
Idk if you can blame the people in charge. During COVID we saw how flight attendants really need to have the power to throw people off flights. They need the authority to act on their own without being questioned. This is one flight attendants’s abuse of power imo
If a flight attendant told you that all 8 Black men on a flight needed removed and no one else…
Your first question would be if they were all a single group and what they did.
If the answer is “No, they’re all unrelated and each of them smells offensive”…
It’s your fault if you just rubber stamp it. Especially when the solution is they just hang out at the airport and then join another flight a couple hours later.
Like, even if it was a real problem, the “solution” doesn’t fix anything.
That’s how you should be able to tell the whole thing is bullshit.
But the point is there’s no one who questions them. That’s the way it should be.
Edit: one incident doesn’t mean we should rethink an entire system
You’re missing the point.
If just one flight attendant can boot passengers, and there’s no oversight, then there is no system in place.
You’re missing the point. Flight attendants face near constant abuse from passengers. Maybe 1 in 3 flights I’ve been on I’ve personally observed it. Having the authority to remove passengers is the one modicum of power they have left. Removing it would make them punching bags. If it were routinely abused, then sure. But it isn’t. This is one racist idiot
If you get power, you accept the responsibility that comes with it.
By it’s nature, decision making powers that effect others come with a responsibility not to abuse that power for one’s own agenda.
It’s therefore right that the person who made this decision is called out for what they did, and anyone else who shared their responsibility with them.
Yes. Thank you, glad someone gets it lol
I remember when some asshole racist told me that black people smelled bad when I was a kid. I spent ages sniffing the air when I was near a black person trying to figure out if I could smell them. I’m glad I can’t see me doing it except from my perspective, because that’s embarrassing enough.
small rural village, one Indian girl in my class, kids said the same thing. racism is so fucking dumb man, it boils my piss.
This was an adult who told me that!
Flight attendants on a power trip on American Airlines is to be expected, same as United
That being said, I have been on flights, specifically out of Paris CDG, where there are male individuals of African descent that you can smell 20 yards away. Literally. There is a cultural factor regarding body odour here
Cultural smells are interesting. In Japan, they find the strong scents of perfume, cologne, and even shampoo that westerners wear to be intolerable and people at restaurants will discreetly ask to change tables to move away from those wearing it. They are more sensitive to fragrances there while Americans have fragrance in almost everything.
Of course, the most respectful thing to do when traveling is to just take a shower and wear a neutral deodorant so that you’re not giving off any unique smells.
This situation sure sounds like it blew up into a racist power trip though.

Apparently I’m secretly Japanese because I am so fucking tired of every product I use increasing their scents to intolerable levels.
Irish Spring and Pert have gotten to stupid levels of scent, and trying to find scentless soaps and shampoos is really tough now.

See, stuff like that makes me like Japan and then I turn around and read something like there’s a tentacle porn-based toddler splash pad in Kyoto.
For me it’s that the country is hostile to foreigners. You can get arrested for stepping out of your hotel room without a passport.
In my experience, human smells at/from Paris CDG is less a Black Man thing and more a France thing. You might want to observe the rest of the other passengers more carefully.
Although I respect your opinion, that is definitely not my experience
I am of French descent, but have never lived there, and travel to France, Spain and Switzerland often. I was last there three months ago and will be there end of July for the Olympics.
I have never smelled anyone from Asia, Europe, Latin America, or Oceania that smells anywhere near some of the smells you get from some people of African descent, Senegal, Algeria, etc.
Just my two cents
Edit: Just to clarify, there are millions of dark skinned French and British people that do not share this characteristic. I believe this smell is purely cultural
lol I’ve lived with more French than you. Stereotypes often have a basis in reality
Man AA is doing a bang up job. This is the third time in the last month or so that their flight attendants have gotten the airline sued
Seems racist to me.
Someone on a plane always smells like ass. No idea how you would ever narrow it down, much less accuse any specific person.
